CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse team's comeback effort fell just short as they lost to Piedmont College 11-10 in their season opener Saturday.
Both teams traded leads in the first half and ended up tied 5-5 at the break. The Warriors (0-1) took a 6-5 lead a little over a minute into the second period on
Bridget Umble's fourth goal of the game which was assisted by
Raychl Reger. The Lady Lions (1-1) then rattled off five goals in a row, the last three coming from Kayla Jones to give Piedmont a 10-6 advantage with 14:50 to play.
Just 18 seconds later, Reger scored a free-position shot to make the game 10-7. Reger made another free position shot six minutes later then freshman attacker
Morgan Dasch assisted back-to-back goals to Umble to the game up at 10-10 with 5:55 on the clock.
Jones assisted Mckynsey Douglas with 38 seconds left to put the Lady Lions up 11-10. Hendrix won the ensuing draw but turned it over in their final possession.
For the game Piedmont outshot Hendrix 27-16 and 22-16 on goal. PC held a 22-20 edge in ground balls and won the draw control battle 16-7. Hendrix committed two fewer turnovers than Piedmont, 17-15.
Hendrix Notes- Dasch scored a goal and set a new school record with six assists, five of which were to Umble. Dasch also recorded three draws.
- Reger finished with two goals, an assist and three draws.
- Umble scored on all six shot attempts she took.

Meghan Ayers scored the Warriors' other goal and caused two turnovers.
- Junior defender
Gabryele Pochron tied her career-highs with six ground balls and five caused turnovers. The five takeaways tied the program mark.
- Freshman
Jesse Clark stopped 11 shots in goal and picked up four ground balls.
- Sophomore midfielder
Reilly Frazier also had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Piedmont Notes- Jones led the Lady Lions with three goals and an assist.
- Douglas also scored three goals and caused a pair of turnovers.
- Cahner Manns had a goal and an assist, four ground balls and nine draws.
- Julianna Surgent scored a goal to go with five ground balls and three caused turnover.
- Blake Forrest only had two saves in goal.
Up NextHendrix will hit the road next Saturday when they face Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala.
