Anderson Hits For Cycle, Warriors Complete Sweep

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Hendrix College softball team completed the Southern Athletic Association series sweep over Sewanee - The University of the South on Saturday.

The Warriors (7-10, 4-5) won the first game 17-0 and took the second game from the Tigers (0-9, 0-9) 14-1. Both contests were completed in five innings.

Senior third baseman Shelby Anderson became the first player in school history to hit for the cycle. She had a triple, home run, double and single in game two and tied the school record with 10 total bases. On the day, Anderson was 7-for-7 with six runs scored, two doubles, two home runs, five RBI and 17 total bases.

In the opener, Hendrix outhit Sewanee 19-2. They scored six runs in the first, two in the second, one in the third, six in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Sophomore pitcher Morgan Maida (1-1) allowed one hit and walked five while striking out four in three innings to pick up the win. Freshman Savannah Draud struck out three and allowed one hit in two innings.

In game two, the Warriors scored six in the first, three in the second and five in the third. The Tigers scored in the bottom of the fifth.

Freshman Dasha Donahoe (1-3) picked up the win, striking out one in three perfect innings.

Hendrix outhit Sewanee 20-1.

Hendrix Notes
- Anderson moved into third place in Hendrix history with 109 career runs. She now has 42 career doubles and 11 triples and is within one of each school record.
- Freshman shortstop Jamie Johnson went 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs and five RBI in game one. She was 4-for-4 with two runs and a steal in the second game.
- Sophomore Deva Bharne was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI in game one. She added two more hits, including a double, and drove in four in game two.
- Sophomore Nikki Sanders hit a pair of doubles with two RBI in the opener. She had two more hits and dove in two in the second game.
- Sophomore center field Madi Fires went 2-for-2 with a walk, a RBI and a run scored in game two.
- Bryanna Carlisle, Johnson, Bharne and Rebecca Maeder all swiped a base in game two. Victoria Hughes had a steal in the opener.
- Freshman catcher Karli Sewell hit her first home run of the season in game one. She was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a triple in the nightcap.

Sewanee Notes
- Miranda Towsend (0-4) lost game one for the Tigers. .
- Courtney Saunders had a double in game one. She walked and scored Sewanee's only run in game two.
- First baseman Sara Burklin had the Tigers only hit in the second game.
- Right fielder Sabrina Caldwell drew a bases loaded walk for a RBI in game two.
- Char Shirey (0-5) took the loss in the second game.

Up Next
Hendrix will host the University of the Ozarks at Warrior Field for a double-header Tuesday night.
