CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team swept both games of a double-header from University of the Ozarks at Warrior Field Tuesday night.
The Warriors (9-10) took the first game 8-2, then defeated the Eagles (5-9) 8-0 in five innings in the nightcap.
In the opener, Hendrix scored a pair of runs in the second on three errors and a hit. Junior shortstop
Victoria Hughes led off the third with a bunt single, moved to second on a passed ball, was bunted over by
Shelby Anderson and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
Karli Sewell.
Ozarks shortstop Hailey Ostrander hit a twou-run single in the fourth to make the game 3-2. Hendrix scored five times in the bottom of the fifth on seven hits and three errors. Anderson had a RBI-triple and Sewell and
Emily Stockalper each drove in a run on singles.
The Warriors outhit the Eagles 10-4 in the game. Stockalper (6-5) earned the win in the circle, striking out four while allowing two runs and three walks. Abigail Mork (4-6) allowed 10 hits, three earned runs, a walk and struck out two in the loss.
Freshman pitcher
Dasha Donahoe (2-3) threw her first career shutout, only allowing two hits and two walks over five innings in game two. Hannah Oler (1-3) allowed nine hits, four earned runs, hit five batters and struck out one in 4.2 innings.
In the first, Hughes and sophomore right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle led off with sngles. Anderson was hit py a pitch to load the bases. Sewell and sophomore first baseman
Nikki Sanders were both hit by a pitch, scoring Hughes and Carlisle.
In the third, Anderson reached on a base hit and later scored on an error to go up 3-0.
Donahoe was hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth, followed by a bunt single from sophomore second baseman Dava Bharne. Hughes reached on error to load the bases. With two outs, Anderson cleared the bases with a triple to make the game 6-0.
Hendrix ended the game via run rule with an RBI single from Bharne and a run-scoring triple from
Madi Fires.
Hendrix Notes- With Anderson's two triples on the night she became the Hendrix career leader with 13, breaking Katherine Womack's old record of 12 set from 2004-07. She also became the third Warrior in school to reach 100 RBI for her career.
- Hughes went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a steal in game one. She had another hit and two runs scored in game two.
- Sewell drove in two runs in the first game and another one in the nightcap.
- Sanders came up with a pair of hits in game one.
- Bharne went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, a double and a RBI in game two.
- Fires extended her hitting streak to seven games, the longest of the season for any Hendrix player.
Ozarks Notes- Ostrander drove in two runs in game one and had a hit in both games.
- Kayla Gray had two hits on the day, including a pinch hit single in game two.
- Oler and Beth Massey scored the Eagles' runs in game one.
Up NextHendrix will return to Southern Athletic Association competition when they host Millsaps College on Saturday in a double-header beginning at noon.
