CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team split a Southern Athletic Association double-header with Millsaps College at Warrior Field Saturday.
The visiting Majors (12-10, 1-1) took game one 6-0, but the Warriors (10-11, 4-7) rebounded to win the nightcap 5-2.
In game one, Millsaps pitcher Cassidy DeNoon (8-5) struck out four and allowed four hits and two walks in the shutout win. Freshman
Emily Stockalper (6-6) took the loss for Hendrix.
In game two, the Warriors got off to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Junior shortstop
Victoria Hughes singled and stole second, then sophomore right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle had a bunt hit and stole second. With two outs, freshman catcher
Karli Sewell walked to load the bases. Freshman
Jamie Johnson followed with a single up the middling, plating Hughes and Carlisle.
Pitcher
Dasha Donahoe led off the second with an infield single. She advanced two bases on
Madi Fires' sacrifice bunt and scored on an error on the same play.
With two outs in the third, Sewell doubled and Johnson followed with a double to left center, driving in Sewell to put Hendrix up 4-0.
The Warriors added another run in the fourth. With one out, Fires singled to extend her hitting streak to nine games and Hughes walked. Carlisle singled to right to load the bases again. Senior third baseman
Shelby Anderson knocked in Fires with a ball to left field, giving Hendrix a 5-0 advantage.
Millsaps made the game 5-2 in the top of the fifth on a two-run double from third baseman Kaitlyn Casias.
Donahoe (3-3) won her third consecutive decision by allowing five hits, two runs and a strike out over five innings. Freshman
Savannah Draud earned her first career save with two strikeouts over two scoreless innings. Mary Claire Shepard (0-2) took the loss for the Majors.
Hendrix Notes- Johnson went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double in game two.
- Carlisle had two hits in the second game, as did Sewell.
- Hughes had a hit, a run, a walk and a stolen base in the the second game.
- Hughes, Carlisle, Fires and Stockalper all had hits in the first game.
- Fires stole a base in game one.
Millsaps Notes- Left fielder Katelyn Murray went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored in the opener.
- Catcher Rayner LeBlanc had a pair of hits, a steal and scored a run in game one.
- Casias drove in two runs in both games.
- Right fielder Kathryn Romero recorded two hits in both contests.
Up NextHendrix and Millsaps will wrap up the series on Sunday at noon at Warrior Field.
