Hendrix Falls at Rhodes in SAA Opener

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team opened Southern Athletic Association play with a 10-5 loss at Rhodes College Wednesday night.

The host Lynx (8-1, 1-0) jumped out a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. The Warriors (4-6, 0-1) scored the first two goals of the second, both by junior midfielder Alex Ortenstone. After two goals by Tyler Milwit, Hendrix senior attacker Zachary Baier scored on an assist from freshman Cole Cramer to make the game 7-3 at half.

Baier assisted Cramer's goal to start the third quarter, then the Warriors made it 7-5 when Travis Rabun scored with 11:49 left. Rhodes managed two more goals in the quarter then added one in the fourth for the final 10-5 tally.

Rhodes outshot Hendrix 29-20 overall and 17-8 on goal. The Warriors had a 21-19 edge in ground balls and won faceoffs 10-9.

- Ortenstone led the Warriors with two goals.
- Baier had a goal and an assist, as did Cramer.
- Freshman Jack Gorman recorded an assist and two ground balls.
- Senior defenseman Dan D'Ostuni caused three turnovers.
- Sophomore Thomas Adamo created two turnovers.
- Sophomore midfielder Jason Blatt won 10 facoeffs and picked up eight ground balls.
- Junior Christian Wheeler recorded four saves in the second half.

Rhodes Notes
- Milwit led the Lynx with five goals and one assist. He also caused two turnovers.
- Ryan Fennelly had two goals and two assists.
- Matthew Jones recorded an assist and four ground balls.
- John Snyder caused four turnovers
