Warriors Win Two More in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Hendrix College softball team moved to 4-0 at The Spring Games in Florida with two more wins on Wednesday.

The Warriors (14-12) picked up a 2-0 victory over D'Youville College (4-6), then defeated the University of Wisconsin-Platteville (0-10) 9-1 in five innings.

Against the Spartans, the Warriors scored in the top of the third when junior shortstop Victoria Hughes reached second on an error with two outs, then scored on a base hit by sophomore right fielder Bryanna Carlisle.

In the top of the seventh, freshman catcher Karli Sewell led off with a single, stole second and scored on Jamie Johnson base hit for the final 2-0 score.

Three pitchers combined for the seven-hit shutout for the Warriors. Freshman Dasha Donahoe allowed a walk and three hits over the first three innings. Freshman Savannah Draud (1-1) earned the win by striking out two and allowing four hits over three innings. Freshman Emily Stockalper picked up her first career save by getting the final three outs.

- Carlisle, Sewell and Johnson had the only three hits for the Warriors.
- Sewell and senior third baseman Shelby Anderson each stole a base.
- Anderson drew two walks.

D'Youville Notes
- Kalie McHenry (4-4) took the loss for the Spartans. She struck out 11, but allowed three hits, one earned run and two walks.

The Warriors opened the game against the Pioneers with four runs in the first. Hughes led off with an infield single, stole second, then Carlisle was hit by a pitch. After a double steal, Anderson drew a walk to load the bases. Sophomore first baseman Nikki Sanders hit a ground ball, forcing Hughes out at the plate, but an error was made allowing Carlisle to score on the play. Sewell followed with a two-run single and sophomore second baseman Deva Bharne hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning, allowing Sewell to score.

Hendrix put up two more in the second when Carlisle tripled and stole home. Anderson drew a walk and later scored on a Sewell sac fly.

UWP scored their only run in the third when Courtney Stephens was hit by a pitch and scored on an Emily Woodford base hit.

The Warriors ended the game via the run rule with three runs in the fifth. Sanders led off by reaching on an error and was pinch ran for by sophomore Rebecca Maeder, who reached second on a wild pitch. Sewell drove in Maeder with a double to left. Johnson followed with a base hit. With two outs, sophomore center fielder Samantha Schaefer knocked in Sewell and Johnson with a base hit to left field.

Stockalper (8-6) earned the win with four strikeouts and allowing three hits, one run and two walks over five innings. Dakota Stout took the loss, giving up eight hits, six earned runs and four walks.

- Sewell went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBI.
- Johnson also had two hits.
- Carlisle tripled, scored twice and swiped two bases.
- Hughes stole three bases, tying the school record for most in a game.
- Schaefer recorded a two-run single to win the win the game.

UW-Platteville Notes
- Carley Rote, Crystal Rote and Woodford had the Pioneers' only hits.
- Carley Rote and Woodford also walked.
