SHREVEPORT, La. - The Hendrix College softball team split a non-conference double-header at Centenary College of Louisiana Thursday.
The Warriors (16-13) won the first game 4-2, but the Ladies (15-17) took the nightcap 3-2.
In game one, freshman
Emily Stockalper (9-6) only gave up four hits, two unearned runs, a walk and struck out three to earn the win. Nichole Aldridge (7-11) took the loss with eight hits, three earned runs and four strikeouts.
Hendrix scored the first run of the game in the fourth when senior third baseman
Shelby Anderson singled, stole second and scored on a double to left center field by freshman catcher
Karli Sewell.
Centenary took a 2-1 lead in the bottom for the fourth thanks to a walk, a hit and three errors.
Anderson tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth with a solo home run to left field. The Warriors regained the lead in the seventh after junior
Sydney Ozersky led off with a single and was bunted over by sophomore second baseman
Deva Bharne. Stockalper then reached first on an error and sophomore center fielder
Madi Fires loaded the gases with a bunt single. Junior shortstop
Victoria Hughes followed with a base hit to center, plating Ozersky. Sophomore right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle knocked in Stockalper with a sacrifice fly to right field for the final 4-2 score.
Hendrix Game 1 Notes- Anderson added to her collection of school records in game one. She broke the career record of 260 total bases held by Jaclyn Herrera (2008-11). Anderson went 2-for-4 with the home run, two runs scored and a stolen base.
- Ozersky went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Sewell extended her hitting streak to eight games with the double, her ninth of the year. Sewell also threw out a runner trying to steal for the 12th time this season.
Centenary Game 1 Notes- Shortstop Anna Dunn recorded a pair of hits.
- First baseman Wendy GIllet had the Ladies' only RBI.
- Margaux Smith also had a hit.
------------------------------------------------Hendrix scored in top of the first of game two. Hughes led off with a single, stole second, was bunted to third by Carlisle and scored on a wild pitch.
Centenary tied the game in the bottom of the frame when center fielder Emily Sexton led off with a walk, stole second, was bunted over to third and scored on a ground ball from Dunn.
The Ladies took a 3-1 lead in the second. Right fielder Cassie Gonzales led off with a walk and stole second, then pitcher Lauren Beadle was walked as well. After a wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, catcher Kyle Bradley laid down a squeeze bunt that scored Gonzales. Haley Miller followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Beadle.
Anderson hit another solo home run to left field in the top of the fifth to make the game 3-2.
Beadle (2-2) earned the win for Centenary by allowing six hits and two runs with two strikeouts. Miller earned the save by giving up just one hit in two innings. Sophomore
Morgan Maida (1-2) took the loss for the Warriors. Freshman
Savannah Draud struck out four and only allowed four hits in five scoreless innings of relief.
Hendrix Game 2 Notes- Anderson hit her ninth home run of the season, which leads the Southern Athletic Association. She moved her career total bases recorded to 265.
- Sewell extended her hitting streak to nine games with a pair of hits. She also threw a runner trying to steal for the 13th time.
- Hughes picked up a pair of hits and stole base.
- Fires and Carlisle had the Warriors' other hits.
Centenary Game 2 Notes- The Ladies only had four hits, but two were for doubles.
- Gonzales and Gillet both had a double.
- Sexton and Margeaux Smith each recorded a single.
Up NextHendrix will be off until Apr. 9 when they take on Rhodes College in a SAA double-header at Warrior Field.
