CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team won both games of a Southern Athletic Association double-header from Rhodes College at Warrior Field Saturday afternoon.
The host Warriors (18-13, 7-7) won the first game 3-2, then had to overcame a lead by the Lynx (20-15, 4-13) in the nightcap to win 3-2.
Rhodes scored the first run of the opener in the fourth. With one out, Caroline Sutton hit an infield single and moved to second on a base hit from Allison Long. Aubrey Blackstock followed with a base hit down the right field line, plating Sutton.
Hendrix took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the frame. Senior third baseman
Shelby Anderson led off with a double and sophomore catcher
Nikki Sanders singled, moving Anderson to third. After Sanders was lifted for sophomore pinch runner
Rebecca Maeder, Anderson stole home while Maeder took second, then advanced to third on an error. Junior first baseman
Sydney Ozersky drove Maeder in with a base hit.
Deva Bharne walked and was moved into scoring position along with Ozersky on a sacrifice bunt from
Madi Fires. Sophomore left fielder
Samantha Schaefer walked with the bases loaded, scoring Ozersky.
The Lynx picked up another run in the sixth when first baseman Karrah Flores was hit by a pitch and Blackstock doubled in Flores' pinch runner, Haley Rath.
Freshman
Dasha Donahoe (6-4) earned the win for the Warriors, allowing five hits, one run, one walk and striking out two over four innings. Freshman
Savannah Draud picked up her fourth save of the year, giving up two hits, a run and a walk over three frames. Long (8-5) took the loss for Rhodes.
Hendrix Game 1 Notes- Seven different Warriors each recorded a hit.
- Anderson added to her school record doubles with the 45th of her career. She also walked, stole a base and scored a run.
- Bharne was 1-for-1 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt.
- Fires also had a hit and a sac bunt.
- Ozersky recorded a hit, walk, RBI and run scored
Rhodes Game 1 Notes- Blackstock went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a double.
- Catcher Rachel Pewitt also recorded a double.
- The Lynx tallied seven total hits.
_________________________________________________Rhodes took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth of game two. Right fielder Katelynn Bresler led off with a walk, and moved to third on a ground ball by pitcher Caroline Reilly that resulted in an error. Blackstock followed with a ground out, allowing Bresler to score. Sutton pinch ran for Reilly and scored on another ground out by second baseman Jill Healy.
Hendrix won the game with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Sophomore right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle led off with a walk, then moved to second when Sanders drew a one-out walk. Ozersky followed with a double to center field, driving in Carlisle. Sanders was lifted for Maeder, who scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bharne. Fires reached on a bunt single to put runners on the corners. Ozersky scored the game-winning run from third on a wild pitch.
Freshman
Emily Stockalper (10-6) earned her 10th win of the year by giving up four hits, two unearned runs, a walk and three strikeouts. Reilly (3-3) allowed five hits, three runs and two walks in the loss.
Hendrix Game 2 Notes- Fires led the Warriors with two hits.
- Ozersky added another RBI and had the game winning run.
- Anderson and Sanders each added a hit.
- Ozersky and Stockalper laid down sacrifice bunts.
Rhodes Game 2 Notes- Shortstop Erin Parker went 2-for-3.
- Christine Hume and Pewitt recorded the other hits for the Lynx.
Up NextHendrix and Rhodes will finish their series on Sunday at noon. The Warriors will honor their three seniors after the game.
