BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Hendrix College softball team finished the regular season with a 11-3 loss in six innings at #6 Birmingham-Southern College.
The Warriors (19-16) finished the Southern Athletic Association schedule with an 8-10 record and will be the fifth seed in the SAA Tournament beginning Friday in Collierville, Tenn. The Panthers (34-6) finish as co-champions at 16-2 and will be the top seed in the tourney.
Hendrix scored the first run of the game in the first when junior shortstop
Victoria Hughes led off with a double, moved to third on two passed balls and scored on a ground out by freshman catcher
Karli Sewell.
BSC answered with a three-run first, including a two-run double from first baseman Savannah Lee. The Panthers added three more runs in the third to go up 6-1.
The Warriors cut the deficit in half in the top of the fourth. Sophomore first baseman
Nikki Sanders led off with a double and later scored from third on a infield single by sophomore center fielder
Madi Fires. Sophomore left fielder
Samantha Schaefer followed with a base hit, moving Fires to third. Hughes drove in Fires with a single to right center, making the game 6-3.
The Panthers went up 7-3 in the fourth when Lee doubled and scored on another double from catcher Torrie Garner. BSC ended the game via run rule with a four-run sixth inning. Pitcher Haley Crumpton led off by reaching on an error then scored on a Lee double. Garner finished the game with a three-run home run.
Taylor Harkins (19-2) earned the win for BSC. Freshman
Dasha Donahoe (6-6) took the loss for Hendrix.
Hendrix Notes- The Warriors connected on nine hits, including three doubles.
- Hughes recorded two hits, including a double, a run and a RBI. She also stole her 38th career base, tying the school record set by Breezy Hughes in 2001.
- Sanders went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
- Sewell also had a double and a RBI.

Morgan Maida both stole a base.
Birmingham-Southern Notes- Lee went 4-for-4 with four doubles, three RBI and three runs.
- Garner was 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs scored, a double and a home run.
Up NextHendrix will open the SAA Tournament in Collierville, Tenn. on Friday against Centre College.
