COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - After winning their first game of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament, the Hendrix College softball team lost to #6 Birmingham-Southern 3-2 in nine innings on Friday.
The fifth-seeded Warriors (20-17) scored both their runs in the top of the second. Freshman catcher
Karli Sewell led off with a double and advanced to third on a single by sophomore first baseman
Nikki Sanders. Both runners scored when junior
Sydney Ozersky followed with a base hit through the right side.
The top-seeded Panthers (35-6) tied it up in the fourth. Haley Crumpton singled to start the frame, then first baseman Savannah Lee recorded an infield single. Second baseman Micaela Beck drove in Crumpton with a hit up the middle. After a pair of outs, shortstop Kendall Hamm knocked in Beck with single down the right field line.
The game remained 2-2 until the bottom of the ninth. Catcher Torrie Garner led off with a base hit and was bunted over by Alex Skeene. After a walk to Hamm and a second out, right fielder Abby Spencer singled to left field, plating Garner as the winning run.
BSC hurler Taylor Harkins (20-2) earned the win, allowing six hits, two runs, a walk and six strikeouts. Freshman
Emily Stockalper (10-8), allowed 10 hits, three runs and two walks over 8.2 innings.
Hendrix Notes
