Warriors Forced into Elimination Game by Lynx

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost to Rhodes College 9-2 in the winner's bracket game of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament at Warrior Field Saturday afternoon. 

Hendrix will now face the winner between Oglethorpe and Centre Saturday night, while Rhodes moves into Sunday's pod finals.

The third-seeded Lynx (24-18) outhit the number two Warriors (22-18) 17-4.

Rhodes opened the game with four runs with two outs in the first inning. Center fielder Ryan Olive had a two-run double in the frame.

Hendrix scored in the bottom of the second when freshman shortstop Tanner Cooper led off with a double down the left field line. he later scored on from third on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore first baseman Jake Wiegand.

The Lynx made the game 5-1 in the fourth when third baseman Zach Lange tripled and scored on a bunt by first baseman Nathan Foshee.

An error and two extra base hits led to a pair of runs for Rhodes in the seventh. The Lynx added two more in the eighth to go up 9-1.

The Warriors scored in the bottom of the eighth when sophomore center fielder JR McAuley led off with a triple and scored on a Drew Judson ground ball.

Jack Mercer (5-3) threw a complete game, allowing four hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Senior Daniel Imbro (6-5) took the loss, giving up 11 hits, six earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Senior Brian Commerford threw one inning of scoreless relief for the Warriors. 

Hendrix Notes
- Imbro set a new school record for innings pitched in a season with 80.2.
- Cooper recorded a double and scored a run.
- McAuley tripled and scored.
- Judson and Josh Walker hat the Warriors' other hits. Judson also stole a base.
- Sophomore catcher Justin Robison threw out two runners trying to steal, bringing his total to 18 on the year.
- Wyatt Hogan's hitting streak ended at 16 games.

Rhodes Notes
- Lange went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI, a triple and a steal.
- Foshee was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
- Catcher Marcus Moreland also had three hits, including a double, and scored twice.
- Right fielder Levi Greenberg was 3-for-5 with a triple and two stolen bases.
