Miles Thompson connected with Nate Hodapp for a 15-yard touchdown with just four minutes remaining to excel Hendrix to a 70-42 victory over SAA foe Rhodes today in an SAA Conference contest.
Thompson finished 29 of 37 for 497 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions having a record breaking night. Thompson ties Seth Peters for Hendrix school record for touchdowns in a game with seven. He also beat his own record for total passing yards which previously was 455.
Hodapp piled up a HC-high 151 receiving yards on six catches.
Kip VanHoose led the Warriors on the ground with 54 yards on eight carries.
Chad McGonigal had eight tackles including one for loss. His brother
Cory McGonigal broke the school record for most interceptions in a game with three and crushed the record of interception yard returns with 136-yards.
Sandy Burkes broke the school record for most PAT's in a game with ten, breaking the record of eight set by Steve Crenshaw.
Hendrix capitalized on a 70-yard catch from Thompson to Hodapp to take a 7-0 lead.
Rhodes responded with an three-play, 64-yard scoring drive that was capped by an 55-yard scoring run to even the score.
With Hendrix up 28-20 to start the second quarter, HC would add another two touchdowns from
Daylen Johnson and
Michael Spainhour to take a 42-20 halftime lead.
Hendrix would score first in the second half on a 16-yard touchdown pass to Hodapp. HC would add three more touchdowns before the game was over to ultimately take the 70-42 victory.
Hendrix will close out the 2017 regular season next Saturday at home against Millsaps at 1 p.m.
