Conway, AR - The Hendrix men's basketball team hosted a match-up against the Gents of Centenary. After getting their first win of the season the Warriors had put their record at 1-5 overall. Â
In the early going the game did not go as planned for Hendrix as the Gents came out hot from the field. Centenary jumped out to a quick 10-8 lead.Â
At the 11:56 mark Centenary amassed an eight point lead.
Much of same continued throughout the half and the Gents remained hot from the floor while the Warriors struggled. The lead was as big as 22 at 41-19. With the deficit looming,
Eric Roberts did his best to spark Hendrix. Roberts received a pass in the corner and drained a three. Â
The three-pointer brought the lead to 19 and after four more minutes of play the lead grew again as Centenary went into the locker room ahead 49-28.
Hendrix shot 36.8% from the field and connected on just two of their eight three-point attempts. The Warriors were out-rebounded by the Gents 16-10 and turnovers were close with Hendrix committing ten compared to Centenary's seven.
Hendrix was led by Roberts and
Trey Rouse who tallied eleven and nine points respectively.
Facing a 21 point hurdle the Warriors came out in the second half and looked to chip away at the lead. With just under nine minutes remaining the lead got as small as three points. Centenary was on their heels as their large lead began to dwindle. The team stepped up and continue their consistent shooting to regain a more comfortable advantage.
The lead would get back to 76-62 as made free-trows would increase their lead back to 14.
It was too big of a hole to dig out of and Hendrix was unable to get their second win of the season falling to the Gents 86-69.
"I am proud of our effort and fight in the second half," said Head Coach
Thad McCracken. "The guys responded and played hard and passionate and gave us a chance. Unfortunately we just couldn't get a few bounces when we needed them to push it over the edge."
Leading the way for Hendrix was
Marcis Hall with 14 points and Rouse, who tallied 12 points.
The loss dropped the Warriors to 1-6 overall. Hendrix will get a nice break before returning to action Wednesday, December 13th They travel for an exhibition game against the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech at 8:00 pm.
