ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team picked up their first win of the season, defeating NCAA Division II foe Maryville University 7-2 on the road Sunday. The win was the first for interim head coach
Anthony Biondo, who took over the program in January.
The Warriors (1-2) went up 3-0 in the first quarter with goals from sophomore
Dominic Dachille, senior
Alex Ortenstone and sophomore
Matt Latham. The Saints (0-1) picked up a goal from Zach Steltzer to make the game 3-1 at the end of the first.
MU's Nick Witte scored early in the second to cut the deficit to a goal. Hendrix answered with a man-up goal from freshman
T. Michael Thomas, assisted by Latham. Latham scored again at the 8:44 mark, then Thomas assisted Ortenstone's second goal before halftime to give the Orange & Black a 6-2 advantage. Sophomore midfielder
Cullen Robinette scored the final goal of the game with 9:36 left in the third quarter.
For the game, Hendrix recorded seven goals, two assists, took 41 shots, 22 on goal, won five faceoffs, had 21 turnovers and caused six. They went 25-of-30 on clear attempts and 1-for-2 on man-up chances.
The Saints had two goals, one assist, 30 shots, 14 on goal, won seven faceoffs, 26 turnovers and caused nine while going 21-of-26 on clears and 0-for-6 on power plays.
