Softball Swept by Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Hendrix College softball team lost both games of their Southern Athletic Association opening double-header at Birmingham-Southern College on Saturday. The host Panthers (6-4, 2-0) took game one 4-3 and defeated the Warriors (5-3, 0-2) 10-2 in five innings in the second game.

Hendrix went up 2-0 in the top of the third of the first game. Freshman center fielder Aubrey Brink hit an infield single and with two outs, junior right fielder Bryanna Carlisle singled, moving Brink to third. Sophomore catcher Karli Sewell followed with an infield single, scoring Brink. Sewell stole second, inducing a throwing error, allowing Carlisle to cross the plate from third.

The Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the third on an inside-the-park home run to left field by center fielder Maddie Ridgeway. They took the lead in the fourth with two runs on four hits and an error. The Warriors tied it up in the sixth when Sewell led off with a single, was bunted over by senior third baseman Sydney Ozersky and scored on an error.

BSC won the game in the bottom of the seventh when Ridgway led off with a walk, was bunted to second and scored on a single to left by shortstop Kendall Hamm.

Taylor Harkins (3-1) earned the win with 13 strikeouts and allowed six hits and one earned run in the complete game. Sophomore Emily Stockalper (3-1) took the loss, giving up seven hits, three earned runs, three walks and striking out one.

Hendrix Game 1 Notes
- Sewell recorded two hits and stole a base with an RBI and run scored.
- Carlisle had a hit and run scored, as did Brink.
- Stockalper and junior first baseman Nikki Sanders had the Warriors' other hits.

Birmingham-Southern Game 1 Notes
- Designated player Haley Crumpton went 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
- Hamm, first baseman Savannah Lee, catcher Torrie Garner and Ridgway each had a RBI.
- Ridgway also scored twice.

Game two remained scoreless until the Panthers put up four runs on five hits in the bottom of the third. Crumpton hit a three-run home run in the inning.

Hendrix scored both their runs in the top of the fourth. With two outs and Carlisle on first, Ozersky singled and reached second with Carlisle moving up to third. Sanders followed with a fly ball that was mishandled by the Panther right fielder, allowing Carlisle and Ozersky to cross the plate.

BSC added three runs in the fourth inning and ended the game with three more in the fifth.

Crumpton (3-2) struck out four batters and allowed two hits and two unearned runs in the win. Sophomore Dasha Donahoe (1-2) took the loss for the Warriors.

- Hughes and Ozersky each recorded a hit.
- Ozersky and Carlisle scored.

Birmingham-Southern Game 2 Notes
- Crumpton went 3-for-4 with two runs and six RBI.
- Hamm was 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, a double and a sacrifice fly.

Hendrix and BSC will wrap up the series with a single game at noon on Sunday.
