CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team lost their first game of the 2017 season, falling to Southwestern University 10-8 at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (0-1) scored a pair of goals in the first 2:06 of the game with sophomore attacker

Matt Latham scored his first career goal to tie it up with 8:01 left in the first half. Matt Amerie gave the Pirates a 5-4 lead at halftime with his third goal of the contest.
Freshman
T. Michael Thomas and Ortenstone scored the first two goals of the third quarter to give Hendrix a 6-5 lead. Southwestern regained the lead with the next two goals, but Thomas scored on a power play with an assist from Latham to tie it up 7-7 headed into the final quarter.
Sophomore midfielder
Cole Cramer gave the Warriors on 8-7 lead on Latham's third assist with 13:14 to play. Kai Knight-Trucan scored 34 seconds apart, including a man-up goal, to give the visitors a 9-8 advantage. Jared Welsh tacked on the final goal of the game for the Pirates with 8:13 to play.
For the game, Hendrix had eight goals, five assists, 40 shots, 25 on goal, 50 ground balls, 23 turnovers and 19 caused turnovers. They also went 9-of-21 on faceoffs, had seven penalties for six minutes and were 19-of-23 on clear attempts. Southwestern had 10 goals, nine assists, 35 shots, 37 on goal, 41 ground balls, 23 turnovers, 16 caused turnovers, were 12-of-21 on faceoffs, had four penalties for three minutes and were 21-of-29 on clears. Both keepers recorded 17 saves.
