CLERMONT, Fla. - The Hendrix College softball team lost on a walk-off home run 5-4 to Carthage College at The Spring Games Wednesday.
The Warriors (10-10) took a 4-0 lead in the top of the third. Junior second baseman
Deva Bharne led off with a base hit, then senior shortstop
Victoria Hughes bunted single to put a pair of runners on. Junior right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle reached on error and advanced to third on the play, allowing Bharne and Hughes to score. Sophomore catcher
Karli Sewell laid down a bunt and Carlisle scored, but Sewell was thrown out at second. Sophomore left fielder
Emily Stockalper reached on another error and later scored on a hit up the middle from junior designated player
Morgan Maida.
The Lady Reds (6-6) picked up a run in the third when right fielder Marissa Maldonado reached on an error and later scored from third on a ground out by center fielder Vivian Juarez. They added another run in the fifth when first baseman Ellie Bernero led off with a base hit and scored on a Juarez single.
In the bottom of the seventh, Maldonado reached on dropped fly ball and left fielder Emmily Zinkiewicz followed with a base hit. With two outs, catcher Darian Pelsor hit a three-run home run over the fence in center fielder to win the game.
Amy Goldsmith (3-0) won for Carthage, allowing five hits, no earned runs, with a walk and six strikeouts. Sophomore
Savannah Draud (1-3) took the loss, giving up five hits, one earned run and three strikeouts over 3.2 innings. Sophomore
Dasha Donahoe threw the first three innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run.
