CLERMONT, Fla. - The Hendrix College softball team defeated Buena Vista University with two runs in the bottom of the eighth in an 11-10 victory at The Springs Games Thursday morning.
The Beavers (8-5) went up 1-0 in the top of the first when center fielder Michaela Mason led off with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on a passed ball.
The Warriors (11-11) tied it up in the bottom of the frame when senior second baseman
Victoria Hughes led off with a walk, was bunted over by junior right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle and scored on sophomore catcher
Karli Sewell's double to left field.
BVU went up 4-1 with three runs on two hits and two errors in the third. Hendrix scored again in the third when Hughes singled, was bunted over by Carlisle and was knocked on a base hit from Sewell. In the fourth, the Orange & Black made the game 4-3 when freshman shortstop
Taylor Oglesby walked, was bunted over by junior first baseman
Nikki Sanders and eventually scored on a Hughes sac fly.
Shortstop Mckynze Hansen hit a three-run home run in the top of the fifth to give the Beavers a 7-3 advantage. Mason led off the top of the sixth with a base hit, stole second and scored on a base hit from Marissa Schmidt.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Warriors cut the deficit to 8-6 with three runs on five hits. Freshman center fielder

Sydney Ozersky each had a RBI-single.
Hansen singled in the top of the seventh and scored on a pinch hit double by Taylor Frain to give BVU a 9-6 lead. Hendrix tied it up in the bottom of the seventh on a hit and three errors. Hughes hit a second sacrifice fly in the inning.
With the international tiebreaker in effect in the eighth, Mason was placed on second to start the inning. She was bunted over then scored on a ground out by Keely Bycroft to go up 10-9.
In the bottom of the eighth, junior
Deva Bharne started the inning on second, was bunted over by Ozersky and scored on a double from sophomore
Emily Stockalper. Maida followed with a single and stole second and Stockalper scored the winning run after an error on the play.
Stockalper (8-5) earned the win by allowing the unearned run in the eighth. Sophomore
Savannah Draud struck out seven over 4.2 innings in the start and freshman
Stephanie Combs fanned four in 2.1 innings of relief. Moriah Guyett (4-2) took the loss, allowing nine hits, four earned runs, a walk and three strikeouts over 4.1 innings.

- Maida went 4-for-5 at the plate.
- Sewell had two hits, including a double, and drove in two.

- Schmidt went 4-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, a double and a steal.
- Mason was 2-for-5 with three runs scored, a stolen base and a double.
- Hansen had three RBI on the home run and was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
