CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team lost the final game of the Southern Athletic Association series to #7 Birmingham-Southern College 16-7 at Warrior Field Sunday afternoon.
The Panthers (19-5, 8-1) scored three runs in the top of the first after a two-out error. The Warriors (8-6, 3-6) took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the first. Sophomore shortstop
Jorge Leon drew a walk and junior center fielder
Drew Judson doubled, putting Leon on third. Sophomore first baseman
Josh Walker was hit by a pitch to load the bases and junior right fielder
Matthew Lillard drove in a pair of runs on a base hit up the middle. After a sac bunt by sophomore second baseman
Tanner Cooper, junior first baseman
Jake Wiegand knocked in Walker with a base hit to center. Senior left fielder
Wyatt Hogan doubled in Lillard to take the lead.
In the second, Leon led off with a double and scored on a Judson single up the middle. Later in the frame Wiegand plated Judson to give Hendrix a 6-3 advantage.
Center fielder Sam Roberts led the top of the third off with a double and scored on a double from catcher Tyler Wise to make the game 6-4. In the bottom of the third, sophomore catcher
Justin Robison led off with a base hit and later scored on Walker base hit to give the Warriors a 7-4 lead.
The Panthers scored a pair of runs on three hits in the fourth, then took an 8-7 lead in the fifth on three hits and an error. They tacked on two more runs on three hits and two errors in the sixth then scored five runs in the seventh to take a 15-7 advantage. Double header Wallace Schmuck had a three-run double in the inning. BSC added one more run in the top of the ninth for the 16-7 win.
Reliever Easton Fuller (2-1) struck out three with two hits and a walk allowed over four innings to earn the win. Senior
Harley Faye (0-1) took the loss in relief.
