CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team finished off the three-game series sweep of Sewanee - The University of the South in Southern Athletic Association action at Warrior Field Sunday.
The Warriors (16-18, 8-10) were a 5-0 winner over the Tigers (1-32, 0-17). After the contest, Hendrix honored their two seniors -
Victoria Hughes and
Sydney Ozersky.
Sophomore starter
Emily Stockalper (10-9) struck out four and only allowed three hits in five scoreless frames. Sophomore
Savannah Draud struck out one in two perfect innings of relief. Sydney Leibfritz (1-23) took the loss, allowing 10 hits, five runs and a walk.
Hendrix got on the scoreboard with two outs in the third when junior right fielder
Bryanna Carlisle singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by sophomore catcher
Karli Sewell. They went up 2-0 in the fourth when junior first baseman
Nikki Sanders led off with a double and later scored on a ground out by junior
Morgan Maida.
In the fifth inning, Carlisle singled which was followed by a Sewell home run over the fence in center field to make the game 4-0. Ozersky drew a walk and stole second before being lifted for freshman
Jordan Mallard. Sanders knocked in Mallard with a base hit for the final run of the game.
The Warriors finish SAA play tied for fifth and they will take on the fourth seed Birmingham-Southern at the SAA Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. Friday.
Hendrix Notes
- Sewell went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including the home run.
- Carlisle was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base.
- Sanders was also 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.

Deva Bharne singled and stole a base.
- Stockalper also picked up a pair of hits.
Sewanee Noes
- Katie Roth, Taylor Wagner and Caroline Sweetin each recorded a hit for the Tigers.
- Leibfritz recorded a sacrifice bunt.
