Conway, AR - Tegan Waller, Holly Heeb, and Becca Maedar each scored a goal as Hendrix field hockey raced out to a one goal halftime lead en route to a 3-2 win over Wesley College in the 2017 season opener. 

Wesley held possession for most of the game, as they outshot the Warriors 24-10 (8-4 on goal). However, Hendrix took eleven penalty corners compared to one for Wesley.

The Warriors put the pressure on right away, taking the ball deep into Wolverines territory. Maedar got her stick to it and flicked it into the cage for the first Warrior goal of the season just two minutes and 30 seconds seconds into the opener.

Just 17 minutes later, Marie Slop brought the ball down to free up space before sending it off to Heeb where she sent it past the goalie for her first tally.

Hendrix would score one more time before the buzzer sounded to end the first period. Waller would get the assist from Nadine Matena putting the Warriors up 3-2. The HC defense shut the rest of the game down keeping the 3-2 lead for the victory. 

"I am extremely proud of the warriors tonight," said Head Coach Rebecca Begley. "The fought off an excellent team and revenged a 5-0 loss for last season to pull out the 3-2 victory to start off the season with a win."

"A total team effort with goals from three different players and nearly everyone taking a turn in the backfield to stop a fast, explosive, and powerful defense," ended Coach Begley.

Hendrix takes to the road for their next game on Sunday September 10th as they travel to the College of Wooster. The game is slated to start at 11 a.m. EST.
