Conway, AR -Â A fourth-quarter final touchdown pass from
Miles Thompson to
Nate Hodapp proved to be the icing on the cake as Hendrix extended past visiting Lyon College for a 56-28 victory in today's non-conference season-opener.
Thompson finished 27 out of 35 for 346 yards and five touchdowns.
Hodapp had nine catches for 141 yards scoring three touchdowns,
Ben Luedtke added four catches for 58 yards and a touchdown.Â
Mason Milsap led the Warriors on the ground with 11 carries for 172 yards and a touchdown.
Duwan Booker,
Brooks Parham, and
Drew Versnel paced the Hendrix defense with 6 tackles each, while
Kody Smith had five stops including a sack and two tackles for a loss.Â
After back a forth play in the games first few opening possessions, Hendrix marched quickly down the field scoring an opening touchdown on a 34-yard rush from Luedtke to take an early 7-0 lead.
Lyon finally answered with an eleven-yard rush of its own to get on the score board at 21-7 with a touchdown by Joe Mahe.
The Warriors scored again on the next possession of the game in the second quarter when Thompson completed a pass to Hodapp for a 66-yard touchdown.
The Warriors offense would capitalize again and score another touchdown in the start of the third quarter.
Lyon completed the third quarter scoring with a 1-yard run by Mahe.  The Warriors were in front, 42-21 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Hendrix threw away its first possession of the fourth quarter, and the Scots took advantage by scoring a touchdown from Mahe. Lyon cut the lead to 42-28.
Sloppy defense was the story of much of the rest of the fourth quarter as Hendrix's offense broke through with a 26-yard touchdown toss from Thompson to Milsap. The Warriors would score one more touchdown in the quarter keeping the advantage and ending the game 56-28.
Hendrix will enjoy its home opener win and will next face Texas Lutheran on September 9th.
