Conway, AR - The Hendrix Warriors Volleyball team welcomed the Birmingham Southern Panthers into Garrison Court on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers brought a 8-4 record into Conway, while the Warriors (6-8, 3-2 SAA) were hoping to come away with the victory.
The first set was a back and forth affair to begin, as both teams traded early points in quick rallies. The Warriors' systematic offense, however, began to pick apart the Panthers and made them pay for costly mistakes. The Warriors showed strength and wound up pulling away and stretching their late lead to eleven as Hendrix nailed it down by a score of 25-14.
Set number two began with both squads trading points. The Warriors attack then stepped it into high gear, and the Warriors would knot the match up at 22. The tie was broken immediately by the Warriors they ended set two on a 4-0 run to take a commanding series lead by winning again, 25-22.
The third set would be the turning point in the game for the Warriors as they would drop the next three sets and fall 3-2.
"We played with great effort today," said Head Coach
Angie Boldt. "We had just one to many errors down the stretch. We will regroup and get ready for Millsaps tomorrow."
Leading the attack for the Warriors was
Amber Melcher who registered 46 assists.
Lauren Dwyer also led the team with 35 digs in the five set loss.Â
The loss puts the Warriors at 6-9, 3-3 SAA. Their next game action will take place on Sunday afternoon as they look to get another SAA win. The Warriors will welcome Millsaps College into Garrison Court. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
