Warriors Fall in SAA Conference Championship

Danville, KY - The Hendrix College men's basketball team matched up with Berry today in the SAA Conference Tournament Championship Game.

Hendrix entered the game as the #7 seed after defeating #3 Oglethorpe in Saturday night's Semifinals matchup by a 69-65 margin.

Berry came into the tournament as the #8 seed. This was the first time is SAA Conference history in any sport that the #7 and #8 seeds would meet in the conference championship game.

The Warriors completed the season sweep on Berry, winning two very competitive games.  The first win coming at home (94-91) and the second game on the road (83-82).

The Vikings controlled the game in the early parts of the first half, going up by four (16-12) on a lay-up at the 13:00 mark.

The Vikings extended their lead on a nice little run over the next four minutes to bring their lead to ten points (24-14) at the half way point of the first half.

Hendrix finished the first half fighting hard, entering the intermission with a ten point defect 38-28.

The second half saw the Warriors bear down and claw their way back into the game though. The Warriors opened up the half strong, knotting the game up at 51-51 at the 12:37 mark of the second half.

Berry took the lead on their next few possessions, but Hendrix would continue to fight back and would cut their defect to 72-63 on a Trey Rouse three-pointer with 5:52 remaining in the second half.

A lay-up by Preston Smith cut BC's lead to eight with 3:23 remaining in the game.

Hendrix would not be able to take the lead however as they would fall to Berry 88-78.

The Warriors were led by Jacob Link who finished with 23 points, going 6-13 form the field. Smith finished with 18 points and Rouse finished with ten points.

Hendrix's Kam Brasfield finished with nine points, as he was 3-6 from the field and a perfect 2-2 from the charity stripe. Eli Fisher also had nine points. Sean Criswell finished with four points.

Preston Smith and Jacob Link were also named to the SAA All-Tournament Team.
