Georgetown, TX - The Hendrix College men's lacrosse team opened their 2018 schedule with a match-up against the Pirates of Southwestern (TX.).
Each team in search of a big win looked to get off the ground running. Southwestern was able to gain early momentum with a goal just two minutes into the game.
Max Lynch would return fire for HC as he added a goal to help the Warriors tie up the game at one.
Hendrix would add another goal to take the lead.
Samuel Martin took care of that feeding
Drew Scanlan right in front of the net. Scanlan beat the goaltender and put Hendrix up 2-1.
After over ten minutes of playing it was Hendrix that held the 4-2 lead.
Hendrix needed to make a move quick and they built momentum and capitalized on it repeatedly. They scored four goals to take an 8-6 lead.
Cole Cramer got the scoring capade going with a goal at the 5:10 mark. Cramer continued fueling the offense with a great pass to
Garrett Brown who put it home for another goal. Just five minutes later,
Cullen Robinette delivered a pass to Scanlan who finished to bring the Hendrix lead to one, 7-6. Cramer was feeling it and lined up a shot that sniped the Pirates goalie to extend the lead to 8-6.
Martin put the Warriors ahead more with another goal and just five minutes later
Jack Gorman increased the lead to 10-6. The final goal of the incredible game came at the 13:18 mark with a goal from Cramer. HC would take the 11-9 victory.
"We were really proud of the men today," said head Coach
Anthony Biondo. "We truly showed our toughness and grit."
"Going down early with a bunch of new players in new roles finding their groove is always tough," continued Coach Biondo. "It was exciting to see great goaltending between the two goalies and great offensive play."
"The game was a game of runs and today we were fortunate enough to get on a seven goal run to take the lead," ended Coach Biondo. "Always great to start the season with a win, and especially against a team you never win against."
Cramer led the way for Hendrix with three goals and one assist. Huge contributions came from Brown and Scanlan who had two and goals each.
Taylor Noack was a wall between the pipes making ten saves.
The win put the Warriors record at 1-0. Hendrix will return to action Thursday, February 15th as they host Marian University. The game will begin at 7 pm.
