Irving, TX - The Hendrix College softball team made the long trip to meet the Crusaders of Dallas in a non-conference showdown. The Warriors entered play with a clean record as this was their season opener. Â
The Warriors played strong in game one but would ultimately suffer a 12-6 loss.
The Crusaders winning pitcher threw six innings, allowing eleven hits while the Dallas offense took care of the rest.
HC would be the ones who went to work early and Dallas had no answer for the early attack. Hendrix put up runs in the first two innings, tallying one in the first, and two runs in the second. With eleven total hits the Warriors were able to pose a major threat however it would fall short.
With an opportunity to salvage the day in game number two, the Hendrix offense woke up and put together enough runs to take game two 7-2.
The two runs for the Crusaders came in innings number one and seven. They carried momentum gained from game one and jumped out the early lead after a one hit one run bottom of the first.
The Crusaders defense and allowed Hendrix to get their first run of game two in the top of the second inning.Â
Taylor Oglesby got on and advanced to home by a double from
Morgan Maida. This brought the score to 1-1.
The score remained unchanged until the Warriors offense took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. Oglesby was in the middle of the action once again as she batted second the inning and doubled down the infield line. Maida would groundout to third which allowed her to advance to third.
Deva Bharne would get the job done with an RBI single. Bharne would then cross home plate on and we saw ourselves with a HC lead 3-1 with three innings left to play.
Errors in the sixth inning from the Crusaders defense put Hendrix in a position to add to their lead.
Madi Fires led the inning off with a single and then
Jaydan Hunt reached base on single to the left side.Â
Bryanna Carlisle advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt and the Warriors had two runners in scoring position with just one out.
Laura Mortan drove in the go ahead run with an RBI single and
Jordan Mallard added some insurance with an RBI on a DU error.
After adding one more run in the sixth inning HC would lead 7-1 in the seventh and final inning and would ultimately take the 7-2 victory.Â
The Hendrix offense was led by Oglesby who had two runs and one RBI in game two and Hunt who had three hits.
The win gave Hendrix a split on the day and improved their record to 1-1 overall. The Warriors have a quick turnaround and will face off with Austin College in a non-conference match-up on February 10th. First pitch is set for 12 pm.
