Sewanee, TN - The Hendrix College softball team took the field in a SAA Conference match-up and looked to earn some big conference wins against the Sewanee Tigers. The Warriors came into play with a 9-13 overall, 2-7 SAA record.
Game one saw strong play from Hendrix. In a combined offensive and defensive effort, the Warriors took a 5-2 win against the Tigers.
Stephanie Combs got the win on the mound throwing four innings and striking out three Sewanee batters.Â
The bats for the Warriors put the game out of reach for Sewanee. With a run in the first inning, Hendrix set the tone early.
Bryanna Carlisle walked,
Karli Sewell would ground out to second but Carlisle would advance to second on the play.Â
Jordan Mallard would single to bring home Carlisle and give HC the 1-0 lead.
Another run would cross the plate for the Warriors in the third inning. Sewell would walk and Mallard would then double advancing Sewelll to third to set the table.
Laura Mortan would then reach base on a fielders choice pushing Sewell to score and take the 2-0 lead.
HC would score another three runs before ultimately taking the 5-2 victory.Â
Three Warriors finished the game with three players recording multi-hits. Mallard led all players going 3-4 at the plate. Carlisle had a strong game with two hits along with a RBI. Also tallying two hits was
Taylor Oglesby.
The second game of the doubleheader was another strong game for HC as the Warriors completed the sweep and won game two 8-0.
Hendrix got three of their runs in the third inning. After
Madi Fires got walked, Carlisle followed with a single. The first run came around on an error. Carlisle would then score on a wild pitch.
Nikki Sanders would give the Warriors their third and final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
The Warriors put together another five runs in the fourth inning. This and another dazzling performance on the mound from
Savannah Draud helped Hendrix get their second win of the day. Draud went the distance striking out four.
The two wins improved the Warriors to 11-13 overall, and 4-7 SAA. The Warriors will take on Sewanee in their series finale tomorrow. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm.
