Sewanee, TN - The Hendrix Warriors baseball team traveled to the campus of Sewanee on Saturday afternoon, battling the Tigers in an SAA Conference doubleheader. The Warriors and Tigers split the day, with Sewanee taking game one 3-2 and Hendrix claiming game two 8-3.
The Warriors got on the board first in game one, scoring a run in the top of the second thanks to a RBI by
Layton Burge that scored
Sean Dehne.
The Tigers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, taking a one run lead. After another Sewanee run HC would add another run of their own in the top of the seventh. However that was all the offense they could muster as HC would take the 3-2 game one loss.
Three different Warriors combined for eight total hits, with Dehne leading the way with three.
Burge finished with two RBIs as Hendrix fell to 8-18 overall and 2-8 in SAA play.
Game two had much more scoring than game one, with both teams combining for 20 hits and eleven runs. The Warriors got out to a 2-0 lead before Sewanee was able to get on the board in the bottom of the first and tie the game up.
Ford Sherrington would then smash a homerun which was directly followed by a
Noah Gilbert homerun to put Hendrix in the lead 4-2. The Warriors were able to add on another run in the fourth and would go into the fifth inning up 5-3.
Gerard Russo would score a run in the sixth inning and Dehne would then drive a run in for the Warriors as they eyed another conference win.
The Warriors would add another run in the top of the seventh. Gilbert would hit his second homerun of the game to give HC the 8-3 victory.
Drew Judson also had a strong game hitting his 200th career hit during game two. He is just the fifth Warrior in school history to hit this milestone.
The win brings Hendrix to 9-18 overall and 3-8 in SAA play as they now look forward to a non-conference game against East Texas at home on Tuesday, April 3.
