Conway, AR - The day began with the Warriors women's lacrosse team honoring their five seniors on a special senior day. Reilly Frazier,
Shelby Hill,
Jordan Rausch,
Kaitlyn Smith, and
Bridget Umble were the seniors being recognized today. They then welcomed the Panthers of Birmingham Southern to a SAA Conference match-up. Hendrix looked to grab another conference win as they entered the game with a 5-4 overall, 1-1 SAA record.Â
The scoring got underway three minutes into the game when BSC would score on a free position shot. Just two minutes later BSC would increase their lead to two with another free position goal.
It was Hendrix who got on the board next on a goal by
Morgan Dasch, cutting into their deficit to 2-1. The scoring continued for the Panthers with another two goals to extend the lead to four.
The Warriors tagged on another goal before BSC would add three more to bring their lead to 7-3.Â
Calah Justice would get involved in a comeback effort as she beat the Panther goalie to get Hendrix one step closer with a score of 7-3.
BSC would answer right back and tallied their eighth goal to put the lead back to 8-3.
The scoring brigade would then begin for the Warriors as they were able to tally four goals to cut the BSC lead to 8-7. BSC would score the final goal of the half to go into halftime up 11-8.
The half was dominated by the Panthers as they outshot the Warriors 22-14.
Alexis Truitt faced a number of Panther shots and was able to tally six saves to try and keep Hendrix in the game.Â
BSC grabbed another three goals in the early stages of the second half to give them a six goal lead. Umble did her best to jump start a comeback for the Warriors with a man down goal to put the score at 14-9.Â
The deficit was cut to four when Smith crossed in front of the net and ripped a shot past the goal keeper and made the score 14-10. The Panthers kept rolling though, and buried another goal and brought BSC's lead back to five with 20 minutes still left to play.
With Hendrix still fighting hard, Hill continued the attack as she recorded a goal. Down just four goals, Hendrix looked to chip away at the lead.
The Panthers were determined not to let their lead slip away and they increased it back to six.Â
The comeback effort by the Warriors was halted by the Panthers defense. The teams traded a few more goals but the lead built by BSC was unsurmountable and they took down the Warriors 22-16.
Umble was the catalyst for the Hendrix offense all game as she recorded five goals to give her 20 on the season. Frazier had a multi goal game finishing the contest with three.
The loss saw the Warriors record drop to 5-5 overall, 1-2 SAA.Â
The Warriors will waste no time getting back to action as another SAA rival makes the trip to Conway, AR, the Rhodes Lynx. The game will start at 10 am on April 7th.Â
