Conway, AR - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse team returned to action this afternoon in their first SAA conference match-up with Berry College.
Hendrix entered the contest coming off a win two days before to Southwestern (TX) that brought them to 1-1 overall record and they looked to keep the wins coming in a match-up with Berry College.
The Warriors got off to a rocky start in the contest, falling behind 2-0 in the beginning of the first half. A goal by
Kaitlyn Smith with 19 minutes left in the half got the Warriors back within one goal and gave them a little momentum heading into the bottom half of the first. HC would build on that and go into intermission up 10-8.
The second half saw the ladies in orange and white fight hard, wanting this win as it would be the first time they defeated Berry in program history. Hendrix opened up the second half strong to hold the lead 13-11 lead with 14:06 left in the contest.
The Vikings did not give up though and they fought back and tied the game up 14-14 with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest.
The two teams remained tied (14-14) until senior
Reilly Frazier broke the scoring deadlock with a goal at the 5:40 mark of the second half. HC would end up taking the 16-14 victory.
Hendrix outshot the Vikings 43-26 in the contest with a 33-18 edge in shots on goal. Â
Morgan Dasch had a huge game, scoring three goals on six shots. She also had one draw control and two ground balls in the winning effort.Â
Kaitlyn Smith and
Shelby Hill netted three and two goals respectively, and
Alison Watanabe chipped in with two for the Warriors as well.
The win improved Hendrix to 2-1, 1-0 SAA.
The Warriors will play again next Thursday.
