Men's Basketball Falls to (RV) Centre in Battle of Top SAA Teams

DANVILLE, Ky. - In a clash of two of the top teams in the Southern Athletic Association, Hendrix traveled to Danville, Ky. to battle Centre Friday evening. Centre went on to score the opening seven points of the game before Hendrix pulled within three points, 10-7, nearly midway through the opening half. The Colonels sustained a 40-24 lead at the break and went on to defeat the Warriors, 80-58, Friday night from Danville, Ky in a battle of some of the best teams in the SAA. Hendrix falls to 10-7 on the year after the loss and hold a 4-2 mark in SAA play while Centre improves to 15-2 and 5-1 in conference play. Seth Stanley scored a team-high 15 points on 5-of-14 shooting while Alex Conrad added 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting in 14 minutes off the bench.

OF NOTE
- Trailing 10-2 four minutes into the game, two free throw makes by Stanley, a layup by Carl Fitch and a free throw make by Brooks Cartwright brought Hendrix within three, 10-7, with 13:39 left in the opening half.
- After Centre held the 20-9 advantage midway through the first half, a 5-0 Warrior run brought Hendrix within six, 20-14, with 9:22 left.
- Stanley conerted an old fashioned three-point play with 45 seconds left in the half to bring Hendrix within 15 but Centre enjoyed the 40-24 lead at the break.
- After Hendrix pulled with 17 early in the second half, Centre grew its lead to 23, 53-30, with 15:28 to go until a 6-0 Hendrix run brought the road team within 16, 58-42, with 12 minutes left.
- With 6:02 left, Centre grew its lead to 21, 71-50, and the Warriors scored eight points the rest of the way as Centre recorded the 80-58 win over Hendrix Friday night.

BOX SCORE NOTABLE
- Coman added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds in 32 minutes of work; shot 4-of-10 from the floor and 2-of-5 from deep.
- Fitch recorded eight points and a team-high six boards and Hendrix's lone block on the night.
- Damecko Johnson registered five points on 2-of-4 shooting in 4 minutes off the bench while Rod Cummings II dished out a pair of assists against the Colonels Friday.
- Jack Eaton tallied four points, four rebounds and a game-high three steals in 28 min in his second start of the season.
- After scoring 15 points Friday, Stanley has scored at least 15 points in a game for 18 consecutive games now.
- Hendrix shot 23-of-66 (34.8 percent) from the floor, 4-of-23 (17.4 percent) from deep and 8-of-16 (50 percent) from the charity stripe.
- With the loss, Hendrix drops into a tie for second place in the SAA standings (Oglethorpe; would currently lose the tiebreaker against the Stormy Petrels).
