Men's Basketball Falls Short of Comeback Against Colonels in SAA Game of the Week

CONWAY, Ark. - After falling to No. 25 Centre a week ago in Danville, Ky., Hendrix sought revenge against the Colonels but this time inside Grove Gymnasium with over 900 fans in full support of the "Whiteout" game. The Warriors found themselves down by three, 31-28, at the half and held the 49-47 lead with 10:38 left but Centre scored 23 points in the final 10 minutes and carded a 10-2 run late as the Colonels picked up the 72-56 win over Hendrix in the Southern Athletic Association Game of the Week. With the loss, Hendrix falls to 11-8 on the season with a 5-3 mark in SAA play while Centre improves to 17-2 and 7-1 in conference contests. Seth Stanley recorded a game-high 22 points and team-high nine rebounds while Sean Coman added 14 points on 4-of-10 from deep.

OF NOTE
- A quick layup by Stanley and a mid-range jumper by Rod Cummings II put Hendrix up 4-0 two minutes into the game. A three-pointer by Cummings II put the Warriors up 8-4 but Centre held the 15-14 advantage midway through the first half.
- Trailing by five points, 19-14, the Warriors fought back to the game up at 19 and 21 before Coman's trifecta gave Hendrix the 24-21 lead with 5:44 left in the half.
- A 6-0 Centre run late in the opening half put the Colonels up 31-26 with two minutes left. Stanley made two free throws to make it a three-point ball game at the intermission.
- Similar to how the first half began, Cummings II nailed a three-pointer. Stanley made a layup on the ensuing possession as the Warriors took the 33-31 advantage with 19:02 left.
- A three-pointer by Coman with 10:38 left put the home team on top, 49-47 before Centre accounted for another 6-0 run to take the 55-50 lead with 8:26 left.
- Down five, 59-54, with 5:27 left, the Colonels carved another 6-0 run to take a 65-54 lead with under four minutes left.
- Centre made its last four free throws with less than four minutes to go to defeat Hendrix, 72-56, and to remain atop the SAA standings.

BOX SCORE NOTABLE
- Cummings II shot 3-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-3 from deep in 13 minutes of work.
- Stanley shot 5-of-13 with two made three-pointers in 36 minutes of work while also recording two assists and a block.
- Jacob Link recorded three rebounds, two assists and a steal in 19 minutes while Alex Conrad registered six points and five rebounds.
- Brooks Cartwright tallied five rebounds, three points and two assists against the Colonels.
- Hendrix shot 18-for-48 (37.5 percent) from the floor, 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from deep and 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) at the charity stripe.
- Despite the loss, Hendrix remains tied for second place in the conference standings (tied with Berry and Oglethorpe).
