ATLANTA - The Southern Athletic Association's (SAA) Council of Presidents (COP) has voted unanimously to return to play starting in January 2021, the league office announced Monday. Seven of the eight conference institutions are set to participate in fall and winter sports, starting with men and women's basketball beginning the weekend of January 15-17. Sewanee (Tenn.) has opted out of playing a traditional conference schedule and is going to play only home games for fall and winter sports. The NCAA announced in August that no fall sports are going to crown a national champion in 2020-21.

Additionally, the COP indicated its intention to have a full, traditional conference season for all spring sports. An announcement from the SAA regarding non-conference contests for spring sports is expected after Jan. 7.

Monday's decision was based on all medical information consistent with federal and state public health authorities, the NCAA and institutional guidelines. Along with the approved schedules, the SAA continues to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic moving forward. Currently, an SAA COVID-19 Task Force committee continues to create consistent procedures and polices based on national and local health guidelines, social distancing, masking, contact tracing and coronavirus testing. Any SAA contest that is canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests results in a no contest.

All 23 Hendrix varsity teams are scheduled to compete in spring 2021. The Hendrix men's and women's swimming and diving teams are the Warriors' first squads to compete this season when they host NCAA Division II Oklahoma Baptist on Jan. 9 at Bob Courtway Pool.

In January, fan attendance at all Warriors' on-campus home contests is limited to only current Hendrix students. COVID-19 safety measures for all in attendance at Hendrix on-campus home contests are to be announced at a later date. In February, Hendrix is set to announce a decision on additional fan attendance at on-campus home contests for the duration of the season. Attendance at all on-campus home contests is free.

Hendrix is prepared to televise online select home contests this season, with a broadcast schedule to be released at a later date. All online video streams this season are free.
