Madi Pierce and
Isis Woods each scored a career-high 15 points off the bench for Hendrix on Saturday, but Berry (Ga.) used a 24-6 first quarter to pick up a 62-52 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win on Saturday inside the Cage Center in the first of two matchups between the teams in a 24-hour span.
In the first quarter, Berry (1-3, 1-2 SAA) shot 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from the floor, 3-of-4 from distance and 5-of-7 from the free throw line.
Hendrix (0-3, 0-3 SAA) responded by limiting the Vikings to just 29.9 percent shooting over the next 20 minutes, cutting a 22-point, second-quarter deficit in half in just over seven minutes. The Warriors closed the first half on a 10-0 run and held Berry scoreless for the final 4:19 of the second quarter.
In the fourth quarter, an 11-1 Hendrix spurt in just under three minutes, capped by six-straight points by Woods and a Pierce triple, brought the Warriors within single digits, 52-43, at the 5:47 mark. A Pierce fastbreak layup with 36 seconds to play closed the gap to six at 58-52, but Berry hit 4-of-6 free throw attempts in the final 32 seconds to ice the game.
Sydney Blankenship scored 18 points for Berry on 6-of-9 shooting. Jana Morning chipped in 14 points.Â

Berry shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) overall, 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from 3-point range and 15-of-24 from the stripe.
Pierce finished 6-of-12 from the field to go along with seven rebounds.
Kessie Jenkins ended with game-highs in rebounds (8) and assists (3) for the Warriors, who totaled 10 on 19 made field goals (19-of-59).
Cassidy Salyer and
Alicia McCloria each had two of the Warriors' six steals.
The second contest between the squads is scheduled for Sunday at noon CT.
