Hendrix loses in OT at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Berry (Ga.) defeated Hendrix, 77-65, in overtime Sunday in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play inside the Cage Center in the second matchup between the teams in less than 24 hours.

Jana Morning scored 22 points for Berry (2-3, 2-2 SAA), including a 14-of-21 effort from the free throw line, as the Vikings went 30-of-49. Sydney Blankenship tallied 17 points. Madeline Sandman had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mary Walters scored 10 points off the bench.

Morning also had seven rebounds. Morning and Sandman each had four steals.

Berry shot 30 percent (21-of-70) overall and 20.8 percent (5-of-24) from 3-point range.

Anissa Gutierrez finished with a career-high 19 points for Hendrix (0-4, 0-4 SAA). Isis Woods ended with 13 of her team's 25 bench points. Kessie Jenkins narrowly missed out on her seventh-career double-double after totaling 11 points and nine rebounds. Kennedi Burns and Madi Pierce netted nine points apiece. Pierce also hauled in eight boards and dished out as many assists, which ties for ninth highest total in a game in school history and is the most since Vinessa Daniel's nine against the Vikings on Jan. 18, 2019.

The Warriors shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) overall, 32.1 percent (9-of-28) from deep and 14-of-21 from the charity stripe. Drew Gaeng's squad won the battle of the boards, 48-47, and collected a season-high 15 assists, second most in the last two seasons since posting 16 versus Berry on Jan. 5, 2020.

Hendrix returns to Grove Gymnasium on Friday to host Oglethorpe (Ga.) at 6 p.m. CT.
