Simmons Bank Game Preview: Millsaps

CONWAY, Ark. - For the third-straight year, Hendrix hosts Millsaps (Miss.) at Warrior Soccer Field on Saturday for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Admission is free, but due to COVID-19 safety protocols, capacity is limited to 75 percent, or 270 fans. Registration for tickets is only available online. The gate at the venue opens 30 minutes prior to kickoff. Individuals who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 are strongly encouraged to wear masks outdoors when six feet of physical distance cannot be maintained. All fans must enter through the gate between the parking lot and field closest to the north goal. Reserved seating in a grandstand between the pressbox and south goal exists for Hendrix students. Spectators must stay off the field before, during and after each game and must vacate the venue immediately following its conclusion. No interaction with student-athletes is permitted at the game site.

Along with live statistics, the game is televised online via the Warrior Sports Network. Updates are also available on the official Hendrix men's soccer Twitter account (@HendrixMSoccer).

A "White Out" is in effect Saturday at Warrior Soccer Field. Hendrix fans in attendance are encouraged to wear all white.

ABOUT HENDRIX

The Warriors are coming off a 2-0 loss at Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) on Wednesday in the SAA opener for both teams. Omar Pelayo had two shots for Hendrix, while Will Kelton, Sam Snider, Austin Pettigrew, Mason Reid, Jake Nelson, Eli Brizendine and Jack Nolen each had one. Pelayo and Nolen each were credited with a shot on goal. James Leone played the first 59:18 between the pipes for the Warriors and made four saves. Manu Murga played the final 30:42 and recorded five stops. The Warriors held an edge in corner kicks, 7-6.

Saturday marks the first of three-straight SAA games at Warrior Soccer Field.

Hendrix leads the SAA and ranks 31st nationally in save percentage (0.839). It ranks second in the league and 36th in Division III in saves per game (6.71).

James Leone leads the SAA and ranks 39th nationally in save percentage (0.842). He is second in the league in saves per game (4.57) and third in goals against average (1.115).

Kern's 29-member squad is represented by nine states - Texas (12), Arkansas (10), Oklahoma (1), Missouri (1), Alaska (1), North Carolina (1), South Dakota (1), Illinois (1) and Tennessee (1). It also includes one international player, Martin Bode, from Estonia.


ABOUT MILLSAPS

The Majors are coming off 2-0 loss at home to Rhodes (Tenn.) on Sept. 24 in league action. Sergey Kolesnik had two shots on goal in the loss. Wilkins Dowdy made 12 saves in 90 minutes.

The Majors are 1-1 in road games this season.

Millsaps leads the SAA and ranks 12th nationally in saves per game (8.14).

Dowdy leads the SAA and ranks 25th in the country in saves per game (7.00).

Jacks Dowdy is second in the league and 90th nationally in shots per game (3.29).


LAST MEETING

Hendrix lost at home to Millsaps, 1-0, in SAA action March 20, 2021.

Kolesnik scored the lone goal of the match from 15 yards out in the 61st minute off an assist by Kaleb Newton. 

Kolesnik ended with four shots, including two on frame.

W. Dowdy made four saves.

Pelayo recorded game-highs in shots (5) and shots on goal (3). Danny Kern totaled four shots.

Angel Ortiz came up with three saves in his first career start in net for the Warriors.

Kern's group outshot Millsaps, 17-14. Each team had four shots on goal.

Three of the last four meetings have been decided by just one goal.
