Simmons Bank Game Preview: Sewanee

CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix travels to Sewanee (Tenn.) on Friday for a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.

ABOUT HENDRIX

The Warriors are coming off a 0-0 tie after double overtime with Berry (Ga.) on Sunday in SAA action at Warrior Soccer Field. Jake Nelson ended with three shots, all on frame. Zack RobertsEli Brizendine and Will Kelton each had two shots. Manu Murga made the start between the pipes and recorded three saves before giving way at halftime to James Leone, who registered four saves in 65 minutes. Each team totaled 14 shots.

Hendrix ranks second in the SAA and 63rd nationally in saves per game (6.00).

Leone ranks third in the league in save percentage (0.759) and saves per game (4.10).

Kern's 29-member squad is represented by nine states - Texas (12), Arkansas (10), Oklahoma (1), Missouri (1), Alaska (1), North Carolina (1), South Dakota (1), Illinois (1) and Tennessee (1). It also includes one international player, Martin Bode, from Estonia.

ABOUT SEWANEE

The Tigers are coming off a 2-0 win at Millsaps (Miss.) on Sunday in league action. In the 14th minute, Mencken Camp saw the pass from Evan Poole for the first score of the game. In the 81st minute, Poole decided to add a goal to his line score as he found a Severin Velasco cross. J.P. Furman made four saves for the clean sheet. Sewanee held edges in shots (26-7), shots on goal (10-4) and corner kicks (9-1).

Sewanee leads the SAA and ranks 16th nationally in red cards (2) and leads the conference and ranks 86th nationally in fouls per game (9.25). The Tigers are second in the league in assists (15) and third in goals (20).

Furman leads the league in goalie minutes played (987:27) and is second in saves (46) and shutouts (3).

The Tigers are 2-2 at home this year.

LAST MEETING

Hendrix lost at Sewanee, 6-0, in SAA action Oct. 13, 2019. The Tigers recorded goals in the 26th, 30th, 48th, 53rd, 61st and 72nd minutes.

Brizendine and Garrett Bosley each accounted for two shots, while Jackson Goodwin and Ricky Barrientos each recorded one.

Josh Neuman recorded nine saves in the first 61:33 of action for Hendrix in goal, while Arron Sahlmann registered three saves in the final 28:27.

THE THROW INS

Kern was the head coach for the Tigers for 12 seasons (1990-2001), compiling a 126-92-11 overall record, including a 31-6 mark in his final two seasons.
Hendrix trails Sewanee by one game for fourth place in the league standings. The top four seeds host a quarterfinal game in the SAA Tournament.
