CONWAY, Ark. - Oglethorpe (Ga.) defeated Hendrix, 6-1, on Friday in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action at Warrior Soccer Field. The Stormy Petrels have won three-straight games in league play by a combined 12-1.
"I was disappointed with our performance tonight," Hendrix head coach
Matt Kern said. "We give full credit to Oglethorpe, as they are very well coached and talented. Our group was simply overwhelmed by the speed of play. We were slow to communicate and provide cover and soft in the tackle. We will have a recovery session tomorrow and look to improve Sunday versus Berry (Ga.)."
Hayden Binfield (1) gave Oglethorpe (3-6, 3-0 SAA) a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute on a header off a free kick by Fernando Guevara.Â
Will Kelton (2) tied the game in the seventh minute when he blasted a free kick from 30 yards out into the back of the net top shelf past a diving Ethan Harrison for his second goal in the last two games, but Sebastian Molina (3) scored what proved to be the game-winner and the first of two first-half goals in the 28th minute. The Stormy Petrels added goals in the 37th, 48th, 54th and 60th minutes for the final tally.
Five Oglethorpe players scored at least one goal.
Harrison (2-2) made one save in 62:54 in net before giving way to Ulises Rodriguez, who recorded two stops during the final 27:06.
Kelton and reigining SAA Offensive Player of the Week
Austin Pettigrew each had two shots. Kelton's were both on frame.
Martin Bode had a shot on goal for Hendrix (2-6-1, 1-2 SAA).
James Leone (2-5) played the first 60 minutes and
Manu Murga the last 30. Each player recorded one save.
Hendrix hosts Berry on Oct. 10 in its final home game of the regular season. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT.
