Hendrix thumps Sewanee, 56-10, in season finale

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Hendrix compiled 591 yards of total offense in Saturday's 56-10 win over Sewanee (Tenn.) at Harris Stadium in the season finale for both teams. The Warriors end their season with consecutive Southern Athletic Association (SAA) wins, while the Tigers' overall losing streak stretches to 22-straight games, third longest in Division III.

Hendrix (3-7, 2-5 SAA), which has won three-straight games in the series, has scored at least 47 points in its last five wins against the Sewanee (0-10, 0-7 SAA). Buck Buchanan, who is three wins shy of 50 for his career, improves to 7-2 all-time against the Tigers.

Hendrix led 28-3 at intermission on the strength of three first-half touchdown passes by Hunter Holden. He connected with Colton Phillips on scoring tosses of 13 and 31 yards to make the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Holden found Tajae White for a 36-yard touchdown pass midway through the second stanza to make the score 21-3. 

Holden, one of four Warriors to see time under center, finished 17-of-22 for 281 yards with four touchdowns, all season-highs. Ryan Hollingsworth completed his only pass attempt for 36 yards to Jaden Davis. Hendrix signal callers combined to complete 20-of-29 passes for 329 yards.

Anthony Johnson rushed 17 times for 95 yards, as the Warriors racked up 262 on the ground and 5.2 yards per carry. Parker Wells averaged 14.3 yards per carry on three rushes, reigning SAA Offensive Player of the Week Rayfield Conley averaged 8.2 yards on five attempts, Luis Hernandez averaged 7.3 yards on four rushes, and Deondre Henry and Chase Taylor each averaged 5.0 yards on four attempts.

Hendrix totaled four rushing touchdowns for the second-straight Saturday. Johnson, Hernandez, Henry and Taylor each hit paydirt.

A Henry two-yard touchdown run with a little more than two minutes remaining before halftime made the score 28-3.

As they did in the first matchup, Phillips and Chris Childress each eclipsed the century mark in receiving yards. Phillips grabbed six balls for 116 yards and two touchdowns. Childress caught seven passes for 110 yards and a score, coming from 14 yards out with 11:21 left in the third quarter to make the score 35-3, Holden's fourth scoring toss of the afternoon.

Childress ends the season with 14 touchdown receptions, second most in program history.

White caught two balls for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Hendrix converted a season-high 71.4 percent (10-of-14) on third down and scored on six of seven redzone chances. The Warriors held the ball for 36:12, compared to just 23:48 time of possession for Sewanee.

A Taylor two-yard plunge into the endzone with 4:30 left in the third quarter put his team on top 42-3. A Johnson six-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds in the period put Buchanan's team ahead 49-3. Hernandez concluded the scored with an 11-yard touchdown scamper with 9:58 to play in the game.

Nathan Hahn led Hendrix in tackles for the second-straight game with seven. Jacob Bremmon and Mitchell Johnson each tallied six.

Parker Turley had 2.0 tackles for loss in the triumph. Hunter Lawrence, Matthew Scirto and Jordan Acosta each had 1.0. Bremmon, Ethan Armour, Timothy Curran and Graham DeForest each had 0.5.

Turley and Acosta registered 1.0 sacks apiece. Lawrence, Armour, Curran and DeForest each had 0.5.

Turley had a forced fumble. DeForest had a fumble recovery.

Bremmon, Scirto, Connor Marvin and Tristan Sehika each broke up a pass.

The Warriors allowed only 138 yards of total offense. The Tigers generated only 51 yards on the ground, 87 through the air and six first downs. Sewanee averaged just 1.5 yards per carry and 3.6 yards per pass attempt. Sewanee was held to just 23.5 percent (4-of-17) on third down and 25 percent (1-of-4) on fourth down.

Slate Stanton and Bennett Ellis each were 4-of-4 on extra point attempts.

Cade Golden was 6-of-15 through the air for 79 yards and a touchdown but was sacked three times in the loss. Tucker Kirk was 3-of-8 passing for 8 yards and was sacked once.

Kirk also rushed 17 times for 45 yards.

Grayson Baker's only catch of 50 yards went for a touchdown less than two minutes into the fourth quarter to make the score 49-10.

Jacob Jackson totaled 18 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss in defeat.

The Tigers' punt yards (227) nearly doubled their total offense (138).
