ATLANTA - Four Hendrix players have earned All-Southern Athletic Association (SAA) honors as voted upon by the conference's eight head coaches, the league office announced Tuesday. Wide receiver Chris Childress and linebacker Mitchell Johnson were named to the second team, while offensive lineman Matthew Altrock and cornerback Matthew Scirto were honorable mention selections.

Altrock and Scirto become two-time honorees from the league after being named to the first and second teams, respectively, a season ago. Childress and Johnson earned their first postseason nods.

Childress, a senior from Gravette, Ark., started all 10 games at split end and totaled team-highs with 47 catches, 782 receiving yards and 14 touchdown catches.

Childress led the league in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and receptions per game (4.8) and ranked second in receiving yards per game (78.9), total touchdowns (14), scoring (8.4) and points scored (84) and sixth in points responsible for (84) and yards per reception (16.44). He ranked seventh nationally in receiving touchdowns, 35th in total touchdowns, 39th in points scored, 40th in scoring and 79th in receiving yards and receiving yards per game.

Childress entrenched his name in the Hendrix single-season record book, ranking second in receiving touchdowns, fifth in receiving yards, tied for fifth in points scored (84) and touchdowns scored (14), ninth in average yards per catch (16.64) and 10th in receptions.

Johnson started every game at middle linebacker and registered 73 total tackles, including 40 solo, 4.5 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one quarterback hurry.

The senior from Pearland, Texas, was fourth in the SAA in per game averages for total tackles (7.3) and solo tackles (4.0) and led the team in each category.

Johnson put together his best season for the Warriors, ranking sixth in the program's record book in total tackles and tied for seventh in solo tackles.

Altrock started every contest at left tackle and was one of only two players on the offensive line to start every game at the same position. The senior from Fort Worth, Texas, who played four different offensive line positions - left tackle, right tackle, left guard and right guard - in his career, started his 30th-consecutive game in the season finale at Sewanee (Tenn.). On 680 offensive plays this season, Altrock was flagged for just one holding penalty and did not allow a sack.

Scirto appeared in all 10 games, with nine starts, and recorded 29 total tackles, including 22 solo, 2.0 tackles for loss, a team-high eight pass breakups and a blocked kick.

The senior and Springdale, Ark., product's eight pass breakups tied for seventh on Hendrix's single-season list. He became the school's all-time leader in passes defended on Nov. 6 against Millsaps (Miss.) and now has 26.
