CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix shut out Millsaps (Miss.) for a fifth-straight time following Saturday's 2-0 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) win at Warrior Soccer Field. The Warriors won their seventh-straight game over the Majors and improved to 7-0-1 in their last eight in the series. The Orange and Black are 7-1-2 in their last 10 home games.
"I feel like we got off to a slow start but were able to start playing much better after about the first 15 minutes," Hendrix head coach
Jeff Trimble said. "Credit Millsaps; they were very organized and defended their goal well."
Claire Huchingson (2) scored the only goal Hendrix (2-1, 1-1 SAA) would need in the 31st minute off a cross into the box by
Brianna Willis.
Mary Helen VanHoy added an insurance goal in the 59th minute when she beat Maddie Moore top shelf after a feed from
Skylar Baker.
"Mary Helen and Claire both had really nice goals and worked very hard for us offensively," Trimble commented. "Our defenders stayed organized and communicated really well."
VanHoy totaled career-highs in shots (11), second most in program history, and shots on goal (6).Â
Hendrix's
Kaitlyn Gilkey recorded six shots, while Huchingson had five,
Sydney Wagner and
Sydnee Pritchett each with four and Baker three.
Huchingson had four shots on goal.
Anna Claire Lewis (2-1) and
Mackenzie Brace combined for the clean sheet between the pipes. Lewis played the first 66:05 before giving way to Brace for the final 23:55. Lewis and Brace each made one save.
Lewis, now with 14 wins in her career, moved past Melissa Taylor into third on Hendrix's all-time list.
The Warriors outshot Millsaps (0-4, 0-2 SAA) 35-8, including 15-2 on frame, and held an edge in corner kicks, 5-0.
Hannah Johnson had three shots in the loss.
Moore (0-4) recorded 13 saves in 90 minutes in net in defeat.
Hendrix travels to Berry (Ga.) on March 26. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. CT.
