CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix closed its season with a 5-0 loss to Centre (Ky.) on Friday in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) action at Warrior Soccer Field. The Colonels won their fifth-straight game overall.
"Centre played a great game and put a lot of pressure on us," Hendrix head coach
Jeff Trimble said. "For most of the game, I was very proud of our girls. They played very organized, and we tried to play good defense as a team in counterattack. I feel like in the second half, we gave ourself a couple of great chances to score. When you play a good program, you have to be able to take advantage of those opportunities."
Mills Mullen (5) scored in the 21st and 72nd minutes for Centre (5-1-1, 5-0 SAA). Bri Tilley (3) found the back of the net in the 32nd minute. Megan Sidaway (5) scored in the 48th and 56th minutes.
Gracie Fitzgerald had two assists for the Colonels. Mullen, Sarah Sirkin and Taylor Gebhart each had an assist.
Centre's Sarah Stodghill (3-0-1) played the entire match in net and made five saves.
Skylar Baker totaled three shots for Hendrix (3-4, 2-4 SAA).
Rebecca Biggin had two shots, while
Claire Huchingson,
Julia Dick,
Kaitlyn Gilkey,
Mary Helen VanHoy and
Bailey Lindsey each had one.
Laycee Carpenter (0-2) made six saves in 90 minutes between the pipes for the Warriors.
Prior to the game, Baker, Biggin, Lindsey, Carpenter,
Aubrey Wasden and
Isa Trevino were honored as part of Senior Day festivities.
"I am so proud of the seniors and what they gave to our program," Trimble commented. "It was a privilege to coach them, and we will really miss them."
Carpenter ends her career sixth in program history in games played by a goalkeeper, seventh in games started and minutes played by a goalkeeper, tied for seventh in wins, eighth in saves, tied for eighth in shutouts and ninth in saves per game and goals against average.
Baker sits sixth in Hendrix history in minutes played, while Biggin finishes 10th.
