Hendrix falls to Howard Payne

PROSPER, Texas - Howard Payne (Texas) defeated Hendrix, 55-21, on Saturday at Children's Health Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets compiled 754 yards of total offense on 96 plays, with 476 coming through the air and 278 on the ground.

Landon McKinney ended 12-of-22 passing for 294 yards and five touchdowns for Howard Payne (3-0). He was sacked once by Timothy Curran. Nick Infante was 5-of-5 for 103 yards and a score. Austin Valdez was 6-of-10 for 55 yards with an interception. Jackson Coulson was also picked once.

Tauren Bradley rushed 15 times for 66 yards for the Yellow Jackets. Derrick Berry gained 54 yards on nine carries and scored a touchdown.

Jake Parker caught seven passes for 181 yards and three scores for Howard Payne. Max McCuiston made two catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. Otis Lanier and Reed Collins each caught a touchdown.

Jame Jakubowski recorded seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks and a forced fumble. Jerrion Watson and Isaiah Milton each had a sack. Brevin Wilson and Peyton Lowe each recovered a fumble. Byron Clark and Dae'shun Weakly each had an interception.

Tajae White totaled 136 all-purpose yards for Hendrix (0-2), including 98 on kickoff returns, 26 receiving and 12 on punt returns. White's 43-yard kickoff return in the second quarter was his third of at least 40 yards in the first two games.

Parker Wells was 9-of-15 through the air for 120 yards for the Orange and Black. Hunter Holden completed 6-of-12 passes for 54 yards. Each player threw a touchdown and interception.

Holden and Rayfield Conley each gained 24 yards on the ground, as the Warriors compiled 82. Parker Turley scored a rushing touchdown.

Christian Gadison caught four balls for 78 yards for the Warriors. Both of Chris Childress' fourth-quarter catches went for touchdowns. Colton Phillips hauled in five passes for 32 yards.

For the fourth-straight game dating back to last season, Mitchell Johnson led Buck Buchanan's squad in tackles, as he totaled 11, Johnson's third-consecutive contest in double digits.

Curran and Ethan Armour each had 1.0 tackles for loss, while Turley and Eli Martin each had 0.5.

Armour and Connor Marvin each had fourth-quarter interceptions.

Johnson, Matthew Scirto and Ronnie McShan each broke up a pass.

Childress' 70-yard, third-quarter punt was a career-long, the second longest in school history behind Garrett Wolf's 73-yarder against Sewanee (Tenn.) in 2017 and the 10th longest in Division III this season.

Hendrix returns to Young-Wise Memorial Stadium on Sept. 25 to host the Tigers in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. CT.
