Box Score

CONWAY, Ark. - Birmingham-Southern (Ala.), which is receiving votes for the Top 25, snapped Hendrix's five-match overall win streak Sunday following a three-set victory by scores of 25-22, 25-20 and 25-23. The Warriors, who also saw their four-match win streak inside Grove Gymnasium end, trail the Panthers by one game for first place in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) standings.

Alyssa Coats totaled 15 kills for Birmingham-Southern (10-4, 5-0 SAA), while Gigi Fields had 10. Kate Powell came up with 18 digs and Ally Mildenberger 11. Ansleigh Dailey dished out 42 assists.

Reigning SAA Offensive Player of the Week Sadie Walker recorded 10 kills for Hendrix (7-5, 4-1 SAA), the sixth time in the last seven matches she has recorded double figures. Sam Friedl registered 14 digs. Claire Smith and Kyler Greenlee each dished out 14 assists. Grace House had four block assists and Walker three.

In the first set, the Warriors erased an 8-5 deficit with four-straight points during which House and Walker each had two block assists and Walker also recorded a kill. Consecutive kills by House and Walker gave their team a 20-17 advantage, but the Panthers responded with a 3-0 run, as a Coats kill tied the affair. Birmingham-Southern scored eight of the final 10 points in the game. After a Meghan Fuller-Freeman kill tied the game at 22, back-to-back kills by Coats and block assists by Fields and Leah Nielsen ended the set.

Hendrix jumped out to a 3-0 upper hand in the second game, with a Camryn Presley service ace sandwiched between two Walker kills. The Panthers rallied to tie the set at four after a combination block by block by Fields and Kennedy Dickens. Five ties followed before the Warriors put together a 4-1 run to lead 16-13 courtesy of consecutive kills by Catalina Williams and Presley. A House-Pain combination block preceded a House-Walker block assist, making the score 19-15 in favor of the Orange and Black, but similar to the first game, Birmingham-Southern answered with a 3-0 spurt and 10 of the final 11 points in the set, as Coats scored three of her team's first four points of the stretch on kills.

The Panthers jumped out to a 5-2 upper hand in the third game after a Dickens solo block. Hendrix trailed by four before scoring five of the next seven points, as a Presley kill and service error by Dailey cut Birmingham-Southern's lead to 12-11. The Panthers responded with three-consecutive points before Brittany Newberry's squad countered with another 5-2 run, with a Walker kill bringing her team within one point, 17-16. Hendrix tied the game at 22 with a 3-0 run, culminating in Walker's 10th kill of the day, but a Fields kill on the next point put the defending SAA Tournament champion ahead for good, as Birmingham-Southern tallied three of the final four points.

The Warriors hit the road for their next two league matches, starting Saturday at reigning league champion, No. 13 Berry (Ga.). First serve is set for 11 a.m. CT.
