SAN ANTONIOÂ - Hendrix dropped its first two matches of the season on Friday in the Trinity (Texas) Fall Classic inside Calgaard Gym. Whitworth (Wash.), which is receiving votes for the Top 25, won in four sets by scores of 19-25, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-19. The No. 1-ranked and tournament-host Tigers won in three games by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-17.
In the first match, Abby Wolverton paced Whitworth (1-0) with 13 kills, while Kaity Barr had 12. Madison Lee posted a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs. Eva Millan also had 19 digs, while Kaitlyn White contributed 14. Saylor Anderson and Joelle Forbes each dished out 22 assists.
Sadie Walker and
Mallory Carty each had nine kills for the Warriors. Carty also had six of her team's 14 block assists. Carty's six tied for third most in a single match in program history, while the team's 14 tied for sixth most.
Sam Friedl came up with 15 digs in her first match with the Orange and Black, while
Camryn Presley and
Peyton Nance had 13 and 12, respectively.
Claire Smith dished out 21 assists and
Kyler Greenlee 15.
In the second match, Avery Tuggle tallied a double-double for Trinity (2-0) with 15 kills and 13 digs. Annie Rose Leggett had 12 kills. Nadia Kern came up with 18 digs. Marisa Amarino and Lexie Acevedo recorded 20 and 18 assists, respectively.
Loren Payne had five kills for Hendrix (0-2).
Friedl netted eight digs. Greenlee dished out eight assists, while Smith chipped in seven.
Hendrix concludes play in the tournament with two matches Saturday. The Warriors face Concordia (Texas) at 12:15 p.m. CT and East Texas Baptist at 4:45 p.m.
