BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Hendrix's
Kennedi Burns,
Madi Pierce and
Blysse Harmon combined for 79 points on Friday, but Birmingham-Southern (Ala.) held off the Warriors, 102-99, in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) inside Bill Battle Coliseum.
Brooke Westhoelter scored 19 points for the Panthers. Audra Putman tallied 16. Each player shot 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.
McKenna Buckner ended with 15 points, going 9-of-14 at the free throw line, for Birmingham-Southern (9-5, 3-1 SAA). Josie Wannemuehler and Mackenzie Raleigh each had 13 points.
The Panthers 35.2 percent (32-of-91) 29.3 percent (17-of-58) from deep and 58.3 percent (21-of-36) from the charity stripe.
Burns tallied a double-double with career-highs in points (32) and rebounds (14). She attempted 21 free throws, second most in program history, and made 14, eighth most in program history, to go along with three steals.
Pierce had a career-high 28 points, going 8-of-10 from the stripe, and nine rebounds.Â
Burns and Pierce each shot 9-of-22 overall. The 22 field goal attempts by each player tied their own marks for third most in program history.
Harmon tallied a season-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go along with nine boards.
Hendrix (6-7, 0-2 SAA) shot 43.8 percent (32-of-73) overall and attempted a school-record 54 free throws, making 32, which tied for third most in school history.
The Warriors outscored the Panthers in the paint, 56-26, and outrebounded the home team, 65-53.
Hendrix travels to Millsaps (Miss.) on Jan. 16 for a 1 p.m. CT tip-off.
