Gaeng gets 100th-career win

CONWAY, Ark. - Hendrix head coach Drew Gaeng picked up his 100th-career victory in the Warriors' 65-49 win over Centre (Ky.) on Friday inside Grove Gymnasium. The Warriors improve to 5-2 on Garrison Court and end a four-game skid in Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play dating back to last season.

Hendrix (7-8, 1-3) scored its largest win in the series since a 62-45 decision Jan. 26, 2018, and in Grove Gymnasium since a 73-55 victory Feb. 14, 2016.

Kennedi Burns narrowly missed a double-double in the win, ending with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting to go along with nine rebounds. Alicia McCloria added 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including a 4-of-6 clip behind the arc. Madi Pierce had 14 points. Blysse Harmon tallied 10 points, going a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe, and eight rebounds.

Caroline Wendt grabbed her 250th-career rebound with 2:29 left in the third quarter in the triumph.

The Warriors shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the field in the final 20 minutes, going 50 percent (6-of-12) in the third quarter and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) in the fourth.

The Orange and Black shot 40.7 percent (22-of-54) overall, 40 percent (6-of-15) from 3 and 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the free throw line. Hendrix tallied 12 assists on 22 made field goals, turned 17 Centre (6-11, 3-3 SAA) miscues into 18 points and outrebounded the Colonels 39-37. The Warriors held edges in steals (12-7), second chance points (9-4) and fastbreak points (8-2).

Presley Chirico totaled a double-double with 18 points on 9-of-20 shooting inside the arc and 11 rebounds in the loss. Natalie Duggins pulled down 12 boards.

Centre shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) overall, 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from 3 and 4-of-7 from the foul line.

Each team had 30 points in the paint and 14 bench points.

Hendrix hosts Sewanee (Tenn.) on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT.
