Burns drops 25 points Friday

DANVILLE, Ky. - Hendrix's Kennedi Burns scored 25 points despite her team's 64-53 loss to Centre (Ky.) on Friday as both teams began the back end of the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) schedule. The Warriors fell to 2-2 in their last four trips to Alumni Gymnasium.

Presley Chirico tallied a double-double with 24 points on 10-of-20 shooting inside the arc and 11 rebounds for the Colonels. She shot 4-of-6 from the charity stripe to go along with two steals. Payton Herold added 16 points, going 3-of-5 from 3-point range and 7-of-8 from the foul line. Bailey Rucker had nine points after shooting 5-of-5 from the stripe.

Centre (7-12, 4-4 SAA) shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) overall, 21.4 percent (3-of-14) from 3 and 81 percent (17-of-21) from the free throw line. The Colonels were 3-of-8 from distance in the second quarter and 14-of-18 from the line in the fourth.

Burns posted a season-high and tied a career-high with 10 made field goals, all coming in the second half. She shot 10-of-14 from the floor in the final 20 minutes and 10-of-15 overall. Twenty-two of Burns' 25 came in the final period, her fifth-straight game in double figures. She shot 4-of-6 from the free throw line to go along with five rebounds, a block and steal.

Madi Pierce had eight points for Hendrix (7-10, 1-5 SAA). Caroline Wendt grabbed 10 rebounds, her sixth game in double figures, while Pierce and Blysse Harmon each had seven. Kelsey Korb registered a career-high three steals.

The Warriors shot 33.3 percent (20-of-60) overall and attempted 13 free throws, making 7. Hendrix was 5-of-7 from the foul line in the second quarter.

The Warriors forced 13 turnovers, leading to 18 points. Hendrix held edges in bench scoring (11-4), points in the paint (24-22) and fastbreak points (11-4).

The Warriors look for their fifth win in their last six contests at Sewanee (Tenn.) on Jan. 30. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. CT.
