Warriors Drop to Lynx on Senior Night, Will Re-Match Next Weekend for Quarterfinal Game

CONWAY, Ark. - Last night the Warriors dropped to Rhodes, finishing fifth place in the Southern Athletic Association regular season. Bri Willis, Zoey Montgomery, Emerson Lejong, Julia Dick, Kaitlyn Gilkey, Sydney Wagner, and Sydnee Pritchett were honored as part of the senior night festivities.

Last night the Rhodes Lynx traveled to Conway, Arkansas to play the Warriors for the fourth-place seed and the opportunity to host a quarterfinal tournament game. Coming into the match, Rhodes was 4-2 and in fourth place. Right behind them in the standings was Hendrix who entered with a conference record of 3-3.

The game started out with lots of intensity from the Lynx, and in the 5th minute Rhodes picked up their attack earning their first shot, corner, and goal within the span of two and a half minutes. The Warriors tried to answer back and were able to earn a quick corner and a shot on goal from freshman Emily Seymour. The next 15 minutes were evenly matched but after a foul in the Warriors' defensive third, the Lynx were able to go up 2-0 on their free kick. The remainder of the half was fairly evenly matched, as neither team was able to build up an attack that could penetrate the defense. Rhodes came out of half-time and was able to earn a quick corner and shot, that was saved by Elisabeth Caton Nelson. Mackenzie Sinclair was able to take a shot of her own that was unfortunately saved by the Lynx. The remainder of the game was once again pretty evenly matched, although the Lynx were able to get a few more shots off and did a great job of winning the 50/50 balls. As the final seconds ticked by the Warriors played their final match at Warrior Soccer Field for the season and for the seven seniors, the final home game of their careers. All seven of the seniors got a chance to step on the field, with Zoey Montogomery finally starting and getting a chance to step onto the field for the first and last time this season due to an unfortunate injury during the spring off-season.

With their fifth-place finish, the Warriors will be heading to Memphis, Tennessee to play fourth-place Rhodes next weekend, hoping to upset the Lynx and continue in the SAA tournament.

The Warriors finish fifth-place for the third year in a row and post their second winning season in a row. Trimble's 2022 team posted the second-best overall season performance in program history, just one game short of the record posted by the 2001 team. At the end of the regular season, Hendrix is ranked 81st nationally and second in the SAA for a shutout percentage of 53.3%. Camy McKenzie is 67th nationally and second in the SAA for her three game-winning goals and Kaitlyn Gilkey is sixth in conference with her two game-winning goals. Elisabeth Caton Nelson is currently 74th in the country and second for her save percentage of 84.0%  and 19th nationally and first for her seven shutouts. She also holds fourth in the conference with 5.25 save per game and second with 63 saves on the season.
