Hendrix picked up its first win of the young season on Thursday night, defeating the Ladies 64-63 at the Centenary Golden Dome.
Megan Gray cut the Ladies' lead to 1 from the stripe with 00:26 remaining before forcing a critical Centenary turnover with 00:17 on the clock. That steal would set up Cates' winning jumper with 7 seconds to go.
Madi Pierce dropped 21 points on her way to another double-double. Kennedi Burns finished with 12 points, and Alicia McCloria was 3-7 from behind the arc. Simone Shields added 8 points off the bench.
The Warriors were out-rebounded 61-36, but finished +6 in turnovers after forcing 13 steals.
Hendrix will return home on Nov. 21 for the second leg of a home-and-home with Centenary. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. CT.
